We as humans love the feel of a soft coat and the warm snuggling that happens when our dog is being petted. They give us unconditional love and even if we have had the worst day or feel like we no longer have any friends they are willing to be by our side through thick and thin. They have to wait for us to arrive home to have a social life of sorts. It could be as simple as getting a slicker brush, a comb or a rake for the heavier coated dog.

Many pet owners want a simple answer for how to reduce shedding in their dog. Many pet owners do not consider how much time their dog will require when they purchase that cute puppy from a breeder or store. Make a habit of combing and brushing your dog every morning right after the goes outside to potty. Once you brush your dog daily after about 2 weeks the amount of loose hair has decreased and your brushing time may only be about 60 seconds.

Taking care of the basic health and grooming needs of your pet can be expensive if taken to a professional, but most of the things a professional does you can do yourself. My German Shepherd looks forward to grooming (she knows that it is time for plenty of rub downs, playing, and treats). While German Shepherds shed year round, shedding becomes really noticeable twice a year when they blow their coat. Getting into the undercoat with a standard brush proves very challenging.

Before you begin grooming, take a minute and run your hands up and down your cat’s body. The skin should not be very dry or flaky, and the fur should not be brittle. The gum should be pink and healthy, and there should be no missing or broken teeth. The eyes and nose should be clean and clear, not runny. Younger children can watch as you go through the grooming process. Encourage them to ask questions and explain what you are doing and why.

The answer is because their follicles are unique – each one can accommodate two to three strands of hair instead of one, compared to humans. This usually happens during grooming when the cat licks his fur off to keep it clean by his standards. Losing hair is natural because of the rough tongue surface. Take the cat to the vet for an examination in order to detect the problem early.
